The sun comes up above the fence
The garden wakes up slow
A little wind moves through the leaves
And everything smells green
A small clay pot sits in the corner
His name is Pippin
He has one little green leaf
And he is waking up
Rosie the basket says hello
Zoomy comes zooming by
Shelly the shelf knows lots of things
And Sunny makes the light
They all say good morning, Pippin
They all sit in the sun
This is how the day begins
With friends in the garden
One little drop, one little cup
One little friend, and then one more
We can do this all together
One little drop at a time
But something feels a bit wrong
The soil is dry and grey
Pippin's little leaf is drooping
It used to point up high
He says, I feel so thirsty
My roots are dry today
I need a drink of water
Or my leaf will fall
Rosie looks at Pippin's soil
Zoomy stops his zooming
Shelly closes up her book
And Sunny dims her light
They say, we will help you, Pippin
You are our friend
Nobody stays thirsty here
Not while we are near
One little drop, one little cup
One little friend, and then one more
We can do this all together
One little drop at a time
So off they go to find some water
Out the garden gate
Down the little bumpy path
And onto the street
Rosie carries an empty cup
Zoomy rolls along
Shelly walks and thinks out loud
And Sunny lights the way
They pass the baker's little shop
They pass the postbox, red
They wave hello to everyone
And everybody waves
The sun is warm upon their backs
The street is long and bright
But nobody is tired yet
Because they have a job
Step, step, step together
Step, step, step some more
We are going to find some water
For our little friend
At last they find the garden tap
It sits beside the wall
Rosie holds her cup below
And Zoomy turns the handle
But nothing comes out of the tap
Not even one small drop
The tap is dry, the tap is empty
And everybody stops
Rosie sits down on the ground
Zoomy stops his humming
Sunny's light goes soft and low
And nobody can speak
It feels like this is the end
It feels like they have failed
Poor Pippin will be thirsty
And nobody knows what to do
One little drop, one little cup
One little friend, and then one more
We can do this all together
But we have no drops at all
Then Shelly lifts her head up
She says, wait, I have a thought
We do not need one big bucket
We do not need a flood
There are puddles by the wall
There is dew upon the grass
There is water in my watering can
And a little in my cup
If everybody brings a little
If everybody shares
A tiny bit from each of us
Becomes a lot of water
So Rosie tips her cup in
And Zoomy brings a spoon
Sunny brings a bottle cap
And Shelly brings her can
It is not much from anyone
But it is a lot from all
One little drop, one little cup
One little friend, and then one more
We can do this all together
One little drop at a time
Not one big splash from one of us
But one small drop from all
They carry it back through the street
Slowly, slowly, careful now
Nobody spills a single drop
Nobody walks too fast
Back along the bumpy path
Back through the garden gate
Back to the corner where he waits
Back to their little friend
They pour it on the dry grey soil
It soaks in, dark and cool
Pippin feels it reach his roots
And Pippin says, oh my
His little leaf begins to lift
It points back to the sky
And everybody starts to cheer
In the garden, in the sun
One little drop, one little cup
One little friend, and then one more
We can do this all together
One little drop at a time
And then a funny thing happens
The sky goes soft and grey
A cool wind moves across the grass
And everybody looks up
Down comes the rain at last
Pitter patter on the leaves
The rain remembered after all
And everybody dances
Rosie spins around and round
Zoomy zooms through every puddle
Shelly holds her book up high
And Sunny glows so bright
Pippin stands there in the rain
With his leaf up to the sky
Drinking up the falling drops
And smiling in the wet
When the rain has gone away
The garden shines all new
And next to Pippin in the soil
A tiny shoot appears
Small and green and very new
Standing up so straight
A brand new little friend to meet
Growing in the sun
